Gear 360 Phone App

Recording with the Gear 360You can record directly from the camera or use the Gear 360 App to adjust exposure, lighting and other options.
Recording Directly from the Camera
  • Make sure the battery is fully charged, battery status is displayed on the front of the camera when it's turned on or plugged into a power source.
    • A full charge will record between 2-3 hours of footage.
  • Load the provided MicroSD memory card into the camera.

  • Press the power button to turn on the camera, use the menu button to cycle through to the shooting mode you wish to use (in most cases this will be video).

  • Press the record button and start recording.
Recording Using the Gear 360 App

If you have a Samsung phone or an iPhone you can download the Gear 360 App from the Google Play or App Store respectively.

This will provide the ability to adjust camera settings and preview video on the fly as you record.


Startup screen prior to connecting the camera:


Go to WiFi settings after turning on the Gear 360 Camera and select Gear 360 (####):


After connecting to the camera via WiFi, your app home screen should look like this, at which point tap the Camera option to begin taking 360 pictures and videos.


At the top of the screen you will see several icons, these are primarily to control your camera.

At the bottom of the screen you can select between camera modes.


Here is a screenshot of the aperture or iris control to set before shooting (lightness and darkness).

Move the slider till your image looks like you want it to.


Here are camera settings, size frame rate and other features you can set.


A number of different shooting modes are available, as detailed here, 360 view is the view you'll most frequently want to use for the assignment.


Switching camera modes is handled from the icon in the lower left corner of the shot preview.


The Gallery button in the lower right corner will allow you to preview recent footage.

Using Micro SD Memory

The Gear 360 camera will store recorded footage on the provided Micro SD Memory card, which can then be accessed from your student laptop.

You will be provided with a Micro SD Memory card and adapter. The card can be placed in the adapter and plugged into the small slot for it on the side of your Dell computer.

Mac users will need an additional adapter to be able to read data from the Micro SD Memory card.

Delivering Footage
  • If the video is small enough, you can upload it to Box (https://nps.box.com) and provide a link to the file to Eric Johnsen.
  • If the video is too large for Box, you can mail the memory card to CHDS
