Open Layers

http://openlayers.org/

OpenLayers makes it easy to put a dynamic map in any web page. It can display map tiles and markers loaded from any source. OpenLayers has been developed to further the use of geographic information of all kinds.

Resolutions

To calculate the map scale/rendered size of the map, use the following formula.

Level 0 zoom resolution = size of map in X (e.g. 360 degrees) / number of pixels in X (defined in tilecache.cfg)

Each next zoom level is half of the previous.

LevelResolution
0
1.4062500000000000
1
0.7031250000000000
2
0.3515625000000000
......

These resolutions can then be used in OpenLayers.

To define the initial zoom/furthest out the user can zoom to:

In the index.html.

var options = {'maxResolution': 0.0027465820312500};
map = new OpenLayers.Map( $('map'), options);
