MR4234 Advanced Mid-latitude Weather Systems
1) to understand the development of midlatitude systems from a potential vorticity perspective
2) to utilize various approaches to characterize the influence of diabatic processes on midlatitude systems
3) to describe and understand the interaction of baroclinic waves and fronts with topography
4) to understand the relationship of the background flow to downstream development and the impact of upstream systems on the downstream systems
Research papers and published books and websites will provide the content for this course. Written exercises and 2 lab projects will be done to understand these topics.
