Specific Restrictions & Limitations

Section 6 of the Naval Postgraduate School Instruction 5230.4D states that there are certain activities that are "not in keeping with the NPS mission or its status as a professional graduate school that they are expressly prohibited on all systems to which this policy applies". Those prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Illegal, fraudulent, or malicious activities.
  • Partisan political activity; political or religious lobbying or proselytizing
  • Activities on behalf of organizations having no acknowledged affiliation with NPS
  • Solicitation of business, services, or commercial products
  • Transmitting, storing, or displaying inappropriate, offensive, or obscene language or media
  • Transmitting, storing, or displaying sensitive and/or classified information
  • Using another individual's account or identity without their explicit permission

General Wiki Content

Section 3 of the Naval Directive SECNAV Instruction 5720.47B provides specific policies on the use of space content, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Sites are to contain only those images which support the overall mission of the Web site. Images with captioning will only have caption information suitable for viewing by worldwide audience, both internal and external. Images of personnel will not contain personal information other than name, rank/rate, and duty station.
  • Web sites shall not contain any material that is copyrighted or under trademark without the written permission of the copyright or trademark holder. The material must relate directly to the command's primary mission. Works prepared by DON personnel as part of their official duties and posted to the command Web site may not be copyrighted, nor may the Web site itself be copyrighted.

Privacy Act (PA) / Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Users of the wiki must be very careful not to post any information which can be categorized as Privacy Act or PII. More information about the Privacy Act can be found at http://privacy.navy.mil. The following information SHOULD NOT be posted on the enterprise wiki:

  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Financial, credit, and medical data
  • Security Clearance level
  • Leave Balances; types of leave used
  • Home address and telephone numbers (including home Web addresses)
  • Mother's maiden name; other names used
  • Drug test results and the fact of participation in rehabilitation programs
  • Family data
  • Religion, race, national origin
  • Performance ratings, negotiation of orders
  • Names of employees who hold government-issued travel cards, including card data
