NPS Assistant Professor and C4I Chair Rachel Goshorn highlights some of the sensors on board one of many robotic systems at NPS. About 25 children and parent chaperones from the First LEGO League of Monterey met several CRUSER research robots and toured the Center for Autonomous Vehicles Research (CAVR) lab on Wednesday, November 17. NPS CRUSER is the Consortium for Robotics and Unmanned Systems Education and Research.
The First Lego League is an international organization that develops competitions targeted to 9-14 year-old children in hopes of encouraging the discovery and excitement in science, technology and engineering. Each child in the tour, organized through a class in LEGO Robotics by the non-profit organization Learn to Discover, was also given a LEGO robotic kit similar to the one shown so the children can learn to assemble, program and play with the robotic vehicles. And they also got to play with some other pretty sophisticated robots too while on the tour!
